“Tea Tor Three” is a co production by phoenix heart films and the T42 dance company. It was made in a very free and artistic way and has been selected by filmzeit kaufbeuren to show in its international short film category on the 4th of Oct. This is the first short film which phoenix heart films has made…
…and its also the first time its been accepted into a film festival so we are really HAPPY about that!!
“Tea for Three” looks at power relations and mental illness, from a playful often surreal viewpoint and was co-made by a mixed gender cast.
A house wife tries to run her house with confidence, but her feeling of control is replaced by sinister visions…
This improvised film contains surreal dance elements, and takes place during an afternoon. A highly strung house wife micro-manages her jumpy maid whilst her husband completely ignores her, Strange things start to happen to the wife and she starts bullying the maid to feel in control… but when the glamorous guest arrives the beautiful meal is consumed in beastly way while the husband and guest flirt and play footsie under the table! The illusion of control which the wife had created falls apart and the tea for three climaxes into a psychedelic nightmare!
The first half of 2016 has flown past in the beginning phoenix heart focused on various left-wing protest moments, which we have posted below. More recently we worked with Imogen Grist and Bec Sandridge to make the clip for “You’re a Fucking Joke” which was absolutely great fun, although Imogen did all the post her self which was maybe a touch too heroic!
The left-wing protest videos came about by trying to work out what free left wing media would look like and if it could have the impact of centre right media with a much lower budget. Essentially it was a mixed success, because its hard to achieve very high quality on zero budget and because Phoenix-heart hasn’t worked out its distribution strategy or reached its potential audience!
However the process was incredibly rewarding and the strength of spirit of the people we met was incredibly heart warming!
This “Break free” video tried to document the coal port blockade an unbiased manner but also give the protestors a platform to say what they wanted.
This “Keep Newtown Weird and Safe” film looked at a community protesting about violence against “Weird” individuals
This “Reclaim the Streets x Star Shitty Casino” looked at how public spaces may be cynically and hypocritically managed by corupt forces, in this far from sophisticated film we suggest that we should have more control over our public spaces.
Finally some little mood videos about Surfing and Skate boarding featuring Robert O’Hara and Chris Nokes respectively.
Well that was the first half of 2016, we have every reason to believe that the 2nd half will be even more productive!
hello, this is phoenix heart films, a new and independent voice with an emphasis on participation of all, and a DIY ethos, films don’t necessarily have to be slick to convey a mood or message
with online delivery its easy to get content out to people so hopefully there will be regular posts with films which either we have made or things which we feel resonates with our ethos
first up is a documentary made a while back, its mood piece about Tom Ashby starting a new life in america
and a music video made for the Reggae artist 2 Nice for the tune “Sunlight”
we hope you enjoy, more soon…
